Who Is CATMA and What is a TMA?

By Meredith Schuft

CATMA is the acronym for the Campus Area Transportation Management Association. Our members include the American Red Cross, Champlain College, Fletcher Allen Health Care and the University of Vermont. CATMA, founded in 1992, evolved from an ad hoc committee, which

began as a way for the members to jointly address parking and institutional growth strategies. The members agreed to share resources as well as jointly plan, develop and manage all transportation and parking programs, infrastructure, and associated facilities, through the formation of a

BBA Launches Study of Commuting & parking in Downtown Burlington

Will a Dowtown TMA Provide Relief?

Burlington Branding “Tools” are now Available to BBA & LCRCC Members

Marketing the Burlington region just got easier.  The new Burlington logo, slogan and online “tool kit” were unveiled on September 12.  Every BBA and Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce member has free access to extensive marketing resources, which are the final products of the branding research project that started in 2006.  Included are copy points, photo do’s & don’ts, updated Burlington accolades, results of the research, and much more.  Check it out at www.vermont.org/business/Burlingtonbrand

The BBA is collaborating with CATMA, the Chittenden County MPO and the City of Burlington to study the transportation and parking needs of downtown employees in order to assess the feasibility of forming a Downtown Transportation Management Association. The first step is an online Downtown Employee Survey which will begin in late October. We are asking employers to help us get the word out about the survey by posting the enclosed notice, and helping distribute flyers to each employee.  There will also be an informational meeting for employers on October 18 at 8 AM.  Please call BBA at 863-1175 for more information.

In answer to the frequently asked question, “What is a TMA?” we’ve asked Meredith Schuft to describe the functions of CATMA.

TMA’s were explained at BBA’s Sept. 6 membership meeting in the new Dudley H. Davis Center at UVM. Thanks to our host, UVM, and panelists (l. to r.) Scott Johnstone, CCMPO, Dan Bradley, DPW, as well as Chris Cole, CCTA and Meredith Schuft, CATMA.
